HubX POS app — Privacy policy
HubX POS is an Android app made by TopAngle Solutions LLC (“we”). Restaurants that use HubX install it on their tablets: it shows the restaurant’s own HubX point of sale and takes card payments through Square. This policy explains what the app does with information. The restaurant is our customer and decides what information goes into its point of sale.
What the app handles
- Orders and the people on them. Staff use the app to enter orders: dishes, table numbers, notes, and sometimes a customer’s name and phone number. The app sends these to the restaurant’s own point-of-sale computer over the restaurant’s Wi-Fi, where they are kept.
- Staff sign-ins. Staff sign in with a PIN. The PIN is checked by the restaurant’s point-of-sale computer.
- HubX’s online service. If the restaurant uses HubX’s online features, such as the owner’s dashboard or phone ordering, its point-of-sale computer copies orders, the menu and staff names to HubX’s cloud service. Only that restaurant’s own dashboard logins, and HubX staff supporting them, can see them.
- On the tablet. The app saves the address of the restaurant’s point-of-sale computer, and what the point of sale needs to keep staff signed in. Uninstalling the app removes them.
Card payments
Card payments are processed by Square, through Square’s payment software built into the app. Card numbers go straight from the card reader to Square: neither the app, the restaurant’s point of sale nor HubX ever receives a full card number. After a payment, the app passes Square’s payment reference, the card brand and the last four digits to the point of sale, for the receipt and for refunds. Square handles payment information under its own privacy notice.
Permissions the app asks for
Square’s payment software needs these to take card payments. The app uses them for nothing else.
- Location — Square checks that payments are taken where the business is allowed to take them.
- Bluetooth — to connect to Square’s contactless and chip card readers.
- Microphone — to receive card data from Square’s magstripe readers that plug into the headphone socket. The app does not record sound.
- Phone status — Square identifies the device that sends payments to its servers.
What we don’t do
- The app shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics trackers.
- We never sell personal information, and never use it for anything but running the restaurant’s point of sale and HubX’s service to that restaurant.
Who else sees it
- Square, for card payments, as described above.
- The companies that host HubX’s online service for us, only so that the service runs.
- Anyone the law requires us to give it to.
How long it is kept, and deleting it
Information stays on the restaurant’s point-of-sale computer, and in HubX’s online service if the restaurant uses it, for as long as the restaurant uses HubX. A restaurant that stops can ask us to delete its information from HubX’s service. If a restaurant entered your name or phone number and you want it removed, ask that restaurant, or write to us at the address below.
Keeping it safe
HubX’s online service is reached only over encrypted connections, and each restaurant can see only its own information. Between the tablet and the restaurant’s point-of-sale computer, information travels over the restaurant’s own Wi-Fi network; we advise restaurants to keep the point of sale on a password-protected network that guests can’t join.
Children
The app is for restaurant staff. It is not meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information about children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date at the top.
